Catalog obsession

Over breakfast most mornings, Julien will peruse a catalog from his collection of many. He will not let me throw any of them away. He will read them, search out new things in the pictures and comment on things for me to see. We've been doing this for as long as I can remember. This catalog dates back to 2004. Photo taken this morning.

Tickets please

I've found a wonderful control for how much TV Julien watches. I used to use a timer but there was inevitably some whining when time was up for "just 5 more minutes". Seeing as he loves going to the movies and always has to be the one who gives them tickets, I made him TV tickets. He now has 3 tickets, each one good for one TV show. And he really uses them and understands the concept. It's something he can see without having to understand time and when they're all gone, they're all gone.

He asks me for a particular show and gives me his ticket. When the show is over he says "I have another ticket, I want Oswald now!" When all the tickets are gone, we turn off the TV without whining and fussing. One point for mom!

Boys...and their friends

There's something I just can't understand. We go to the neighborhood pool everyday. Julien and the other boys are very excited to see each other. Then after about 15 seconds of fun, they're at each other's throats screaming bloody murder. Each boy to their respective corner please!! Then it all begins again. This goes on for the 2 hours were at the pool. EVERY DAY!! And of course as we leave to go home, they both say, "Why do we have to go? Can he come over to play at our house?" AHHHH!!!! Why is it impossible to be peaceful buddies at this age? I can not wait for Julien to be just a tad older and watch him run off and play with his friends - somewhere where I can't hear the screaming so I can read my People magazine. ;o)
