32 Entropy Lane
A place of disorder and randomness, otherwise known as my life

The kids are always taking books off of the bookshelves for various reasons and I often find myself picking them up and putting them back on the shelf.

This morning, David Mamet's play Oleanna lay in the middle of the living room. I picked it up and remembered that I love it. I sat down at the kitchen table just to read a few pages while Finn scurried around naked watching TV.

Cut to an hour later and I had read the entire thing.

Holy shit, that is pure brilliance. Absolute sheer genius. I felt energized after rereading it after so many years. A must read or see.

It was first performed on May 1, 1992 at the Hasty Pudding Theater in Cambridge, MA with William H. Macy as John and Rebecca Pidgeon as Carol. (Interesting tidbit I just read is that Pidgeon is Mamet's sister in law. (edited later - she is his wife) Ah...nepotism....) Perfect casting and I envisioned Macy the entire time. I don't know anything of Pidgeon. I've seen it on stage but would have loved to have seen Macy play John.

Oh...to escape to the theater. That is on my list of things to do soon. And I don't mean Disney Ice Princesses that the girl and I are going to see next month.

I'm obsessed with Petra Haden. Seriously. Listen to this cover of The Beach Boys "God Only Knows." She's only using her voice. No instruments. She covers The Who Sells Out in its entirety, all a cappella as well.  She does this killer version of Journey's Don't Stop Believing too.

There is just no way you can have a bad day after listening to that. Her sister is Rachel Haden, who plays the cello and is Jack Black's wife.(love him) They used to tour as The Haden Sisters.

It's inspiring. And of course, I'm finding it 2 years later, which is totally how I roll. Yesterday, I finally heard a Regina Spektor song and was like "ohhhhh."

Finn and I have a field trip today with his class to the pumpkin patch. I'm completely and utterly indifferent. Actually, I'm leaning towards not wanting to go at all and get a massage instead but that's probably not going to happen. Excuse me while I put on my preschool face.

Shoutout to AXM for all of his help and patience with my latest research project. You're the master.
