A place of disorder and randomness, otherwise known as my life

Gwen Stefani's new song, Wind It Up, is completely infectious. Um, anything that samples The Sound of Music has my vote. Especially the "there was one lonlely goat" part.

After attending a seminar on teaching sex to kids last week, which was really interesting and helpful, I ordered a few books online to read to Hadley. She already knows the basics but I wanted to fill in the gaps. It's Not the Stork is a great book and we have been reading it non stop since it arrived. I also got It's So Amazing, which is geared towards older children (7) but I figured "why not?" Peter and I want to be open about everything to do with sex and your body from a very young age. We just want it to be one of the many things you learn. Not "the talk" you have when you're 12 on the way to Soccer practice. Shame, secrecy and embarrassment really needn't play any part quite honestly. And I want her to get the correct information from us. Period. I found out about sex from friends (inaccurate) and from what I could piece together on my own, which was not a lot. The whole thing was just the big mystery.

Taylor picked them up yesterday and I gave her a heads up about everything we have been talking about just in case she was questioned. I'm trying to let people that are close to us know just in case Hadley feels the need to discuss. I don't want anyone blindsided. Poor EKD is in town on business and last night she had some free time. I picked her up at her hotel, we got Chipotle and she came over to hang for a while. She was helping me put the kids to bed when I suggested she read Hadley a book. Hadley, of course, picks up the book "about how babies are made." Erin gives me a pained look and I say "Pick another book, sweetheart, we've read that so much lately." She was adamant so Erin agreed to read it to her. What a sport. Every time Erin visits she gets a bigger dose of parenthood. Ah well...consider it training. ;)
