So she's here. My beautiful niece and goddaughter Mia Frances Pellegrino arrived yesterday in Denver, Colorado around 4:30pm. She was 6 lbs 11 ounces and has dark hair. I haven't seen pictures yet but I know she is a show stopper. She's Meg and V's baby for crying out loud. Of course she is. And of course she came into the world without much fuss and of course she took right to nursing. Atta girl.

I am so proud of my sister and can't shake the feeling that no one else in the history of the world (including me) has ever had a baby. MY sister made another human being. I know it sounds bizarre because hell, I've made TWO but I'm still in awe. This brilliant little girl who used to get pissed when people thought she was a boy and who my dad called "Meginski" is a mother. I am beyond elated.

Dearest Mia,

I can't wait to meet you sweet baby. Be nice to your mama. Focus on SLEEPING. No one likes a screaming baby. That crazy furry thing is your poodle sister Bijou. Oh, and get used to hearing this whispered oh so sweetly in your ear..."Emily is your favorite aunt...."
