A place of disorder and randomness, otherwise known as my life

The day started out well, as Wednesday is Taylor day and we all know Taylor is magical. I walked downstairs and saw a little pile of dirt outside of the laundry room and knew instantly what had transpired. Stan had brought something in, dropped it and I had a feeling it was still there. I vacuumed up the dirt at the deposit site and kept my eyes peeled. With two little kids, a big dog and the cat, whatever varmint was in the house was probably hiding. Sure enough, it surfaced a few hours later when Taylor and I were chit chatting in the kitchen. Atticus pounced on something and Taylor said “What the?” I laughed (I think its funny that this shit doesn’t even phase me anymore) and said “There it is!” The thing was flipped over from Atticus prodding it so it was only when it flipped over that I saw it was a MOLE! It was pissed too and backing into a corner hissing or yelling or just opening his mouth really wide…I don’t know. I went and got a plastic container and captured him. Then we all looked it for a minute. Crazy little critter. He was probably 8 inches long with that pointy nose and digging paws, digging away at the plastic container trying to get out. I ran to the wayyy back part of the yard and dumped him out. Peter asked me later “Why didn’t you kill it?” Um, hi, have we met? That would never happen in a million years. It just seems completely illogical to me. Nice to meet you Mr.Mole, I’m sorry my cat captured you and dragged you into my house. That was terribly rude of him. Here, let me pummel you to death with my shoe. (note: I just reread this last sentence to Peter and he said “…I wouldn’t have hit him with a shoe. There’s much better ways to do that.” I would like to remind you all of the bright orange mallet he used to get rid of a rat. I rest my case.)

Anyway, I was and am still sort of delighted at the whole event. Taylor and I just kept laughing. Me because it really was funny and she was laughing probably out of horror. Another day in the life of the Provosts. Total Swiss Family Robinson…or Animal Planet…something.

I was supposed to go hang out with my friend Elizabeth and her gorgeous baby, Ava-Jaemes, but thought better of it spreading germs and whatnot. I woke up this morning feeling congested and just didn’t want to risk infecting sweet baby girl (on advice from Dr. Peter, who is still feeling nasty and phlegmy and whatever else). I have horrible guilt about flaking because I feel like I’m ALWAYS flaking on her. Well, not flaking but cancelling. We rarely see each either which sucks as their little family is one of my favorites. I know she was disappointed, as was I, and there is nothing worse than the feeling of disappointing someone. Perhaps I’m being dramatic. It’s been known to happen.

So, basically I’m home sick with my darling hubby. Dare I say I’m liking the one on one time? Circumstances could be better but I’ll take anything I can get.

The sun is out in full force and it’s a beautiful day. Thinking of all of the girls who ever lived at 1218 Mississippi or 912 Maine. Good times in Larry, KS.
