32 Entropy Lane
A place of disorder and randomness, otherwise known as my life

I saw it yesterday and I can’t stop thinking about it. It was raw and thought provoking. The characters had a stunning amount of depth and emotion. While I thought the performances were phenomenal and I loved the used of language, I couldn’t identify with any of the characters, which is fine. It just kept me from truly becoming involved with the movie. I was taken aback by the raw profanity and the nonchalant use of the word “cunt”. Not in a “why, I never!” kind of way…but in an interested scoot-up-my-chair-where-is-this-going kind of way. It wasn't gratuitous and seemed natural given the circumstances and the amount of pain these people were in.

While watching it, it felt like a play to me because of the phrasing and language. Doing a little research I found out it was on Broadway in the late nineties. Interesting. I also discovered that in the play Natalie Portman’s character gets hit by a car in the last scene.

She deserves an Oscar by the way, and I hope she gets it. Perhaps this time she’ll prepare a speech and come across as the Yale-y that she is instead of crumbling into a giggling 12 year old like she did at the Golden Globes.
